Mike Sailsbery Announces Candidacy for Kutztown Area School District School Board – Region 1
KUTZTOWN, PA – Mike Sailsbery has officially announced his candidacy for the Kutztown Area School District School Board, Region 1, and is cross-filing to appear on both the Republican and Democratic ballots in the upcoming primary election on May 20, 2025.
A lifelong educator and U.S. Army veteran, Mike has dedicated his career to public service. After earning his B.A. in Mathematics Education from Greenville University, he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1970, serving as a Pershing Missile Specialist at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, until his honorable discharge in 1972. He then began his career in education, teaching high school mathematics before transitioning into leadership roles. He ultimately served as Superintendent of Schools for Northern Wells Community Schools in Indiana for 18 years.
“As a lifelong educator, I firmly believe that strong schools are the foundation of a strong community,” said Mike. “Every student deserves access to a quality education, and I am committed to ensuring that Kutztown Area schools continue to provide opportunities for all children to succeed.”
Mike holds an M.S. in Education, an Education Specialist (E.D.S.) degree, and a Doctorate of Education from Indiana University. Throughout his career, he has served on numerous boards and committees and is currently the Treasurer of Kutztown Trinity Lutheran Church.
Since moving to Kutztown in 2018, he and his wife, Debby, have enjoyed becoming part of the community. They have five daughters and 14 grandchildren, three of whom have attended Kutztown Area Community Schools. In his free time, he enjoys woodworking and restoring their historic 1880s home.
Mike’s campaign will focus on strengthening academic excellence, supporting educators, and fostering a collaborative relationship between the school district and the community. He looks forward to engaging with voters and listening to their priorities in the weeks ahead.
